Carbber broke down off New Quay

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat at New Quay was called on Sep 26, 2017, at 9.30 a.m. to assist the "Emma Louise" which had broken down 24 miles to the north of the port. The "Emma Louise", registered in Cornwall and currently based in Fishguard, was adrift with seven crew on board. It was fishing for whelks when the engine failed and a call for assistance had to be made. After assessing the situation, the decision was made to undertake the long tow back to Fishguard. This proceeded without incident in generally good sea conditions as far as off Cemaes Head where Fishguard RNLI's all-weather lifeboat took over the tow at 3.30 p.m. for the rest of the journey. The New Quay lifeboat returned to its station at shortly after 5 p.m.. Disabled craabber towed to Newlyn

The Penlee RNLI lifeboat Ivan Ellen was launched on June 6, 2014, to assist the "Emma Louis" which was in difficulty one mile southeast of Newlyn Harbour. The Falmouth Coastguard alerted the volunteer crew at approximately 05.40 a,m., and less than eight minutes later the lifeboat was leaving the harbour. The Newlyn based crabger had developed a steering gear problem and was left unable to manoeuvre. In tricky conditions in a southeasterly wind, the crew of the "Ivan Ellen" quickly set up a tow and the vessel was taken back to Newlyn and berthed alongside the North Pier. The lifeboat was back on station exactly an hour after the pager went off.
