Tank barge with 340 tons diesel on fire
While she was enroute from Bratislava to Straubing with a cargo of 340 tons diesel fuel a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Energy 4", 351 ts (EU-No.: 02311412), in the port entrance of Enns near Mauthausen on Mar 15, 2016, around 11 a.m. A large scale alarm was triggered and eight fire brigades were alerted. The crew of three Ukrainians, aged 33, 55 and 61 years, was evacuated from the bow of the ship by a fire boat of the fire rescue Haid after their attempts tp douse the fire had failed and flames were raging from the wheelhouse. One of them was treated for smoke inhalation. The German dredger ship "Horst Felix", 1400 ts (EU-No.: 02317407), which was nearby started flooding the tank barge with its excavator bucket and was able to get the fire under control within 20 minutes with a dozen loads of water. Around midday the fire was finally out, and the fire rescue Haid remained on scene as a fire guard and final extinguishing work.
