Trawler sank two days after fire
The "Esteiro" which had caught fire on Sep 9 about 200 miles off the coast of Bahia Blanca, was so weakened in its structure due to the heat and damage, that its list increased to starboard and it finally sank in the early afternoon of Sep 11. The ship had been completely gutted despite attempts to extinguish the fire by the Argentina patrol boat "Thompson - CG 26" which was dispatched to the blazing trawler with divers and firefighters on board. and the aircraft patrol PNA PA-22 which was monitoring the site. The 17 crew members which had been rescued by the fishing vessel "Atrevido", meanwhile arrived at the port of Mar del Plata. Trawler on fire off Bahia Blanca
In the stern of the "Esteiro" a fire broke out in the morning of Sep 10, 2016, off Bahia Blanca. The 17 crew members were rescued by the nearby fishing vessel "Atrevido" (IMO: 9014016). The vessel remained well alight and adrift. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezbizFLld-U
