Trawler towed to safety over five days
The crew of Coast Guard Cutter 'Tahoma' safely towed the disabled 'Fearless' which was 160 nautical miles East of Nantucket, Massachusetts, to the coast. The Coast Guard Cutter received a report about the ship on Dec 6 at 10:26 p.m. from the Coast Guard First District Command Center. The fishing vessel was reported to be disabled, with the crew requesting assistance. The 'Tahoma' rendezvoused with the ship on Dec 7 and established a towing connection in a swell of 4 ft and 17 knots wind. She towed the 'Fearless' over the course of five days and rendezvoused with a commercial towing company near Buzzard’s Bay on Dec 11 for the transit to port. On Dec 12 at 6.15 a.m. it was finally berthed in New Bedford. Report with photo: https://coastguardnews.com/coast-guard-crew-tows-new-bedford-fishing-vessel-5-days-160-miles/2020/12/12/
