On fire in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Arab News reported fire on board of a Thai freighter docked in Jeddah on Sep 11 13, with a photo of fire posted on twitter. Fire started presumably in the afternoon and continued well into the night, with Civil Defense firefighting teams fighting fire. Port authorities said firefighters didn’t use water fearing the stability of the vessel could be compromised, using carbon dioxide instead. It is understood that the fire erupted in hold or holds, near superstructure. No injures reported, scale of the damages yet unknown. Arab News didn’t report the name of the vessel. According to vesseltracker.com data, it’s a Thai general cargo vessel Fredensborg. Vessel arrived to Jeddah from Golcuk Turkey, with some general cargo.
