Wind farm vessel found two distressed boaters

Mon Jun 20 11:59:10 CEST 2022 Timsen

On June 18, 2022, at 9:05 p.m., the fishing boat 'Atika 2' requested assistance in the Quiberon Bay between Hoëdic and Dumet Island with two crew members on board, who were unable to specify their location. The CROSS Etel deployed numerous nautical and air, civil and military search and rescue resources to locate the boat because radio contact got lost. The Croizic SNSM station was put on alert and reinforced by personnel from the maritime gendarmerie, five SNSM boats were engaged as well as the 'Furore G'. The Piriac semaphore was mobilized for an extended watch. Aerial resources were deployed from the start of the operation: the Civil Security Dragon 26 helicopter carried out searches for several hours, then on June 19 at 2 a.m., as soon as the weather conditions allowed, a Falcon 50 patrol aircraft took off. In the early morning of June 19, the two boaters fired distress flares and managed to regain VHF contact with the emergency services. After they were located in the wind farm of Saint Nazaire, the 'Furore G' cane to assist them, then relayed by an SNSM boat which brought them back to the port of Le Croisic where they were taken care of by the firefighters.
