Disabled trawler towed to Howth
On Feb 3, 2016, the RNLI in Dun Laoghaire was alerted after the "Argonaut- BA 858" got into difficulty outside the Kish Bank off the coast of Dublin. The crew had been fishing for scallop when a rope got caught in the vessel’s propeller. The volunteer lifeboat crew battled challenging weather conditions to successfully bring the six men and their trawler ashore. Blustery conditions at sea saw gale force 9 strong winds blowing, as well as four metre high waves crashing into the boat. The lifeboat crew arrived on scene shortly before 4 a.m. and established a tow line between the two boats. High winds, poor visibility and arduous sea conditions made it a difficult and dangerous task. The crew battled through the night to drag the disabled boat back to shore, but needed the support of the Howth RNLI at 9:40 a.m. to assist in a safe entry to Howth Harbour.
