Trawler sank off Fécamp
In the early morning of Oct 29, 2017, the "Maletico - DP.365120", 30 gt, with a crew of five on board issued a distress call which was receeived by the CROSS Gris-Nez after having suffered strong water ingress off Fécamp. The CROSS immediately deployed the SNSM-boat "Cap Fagnet - SNS 089" from Fécamp, the "Commandant" Chandelier of the SNSM station Saint Valéry en Caux and a Dragon 76 helicopter from Le Havre. The trawler "Equinoxe" which was on its way to Dieppe, also participated in the rescue operations and went on standby near the "Maletico". After attempts to dewater the ship failed, it started to sink at 2.50 a.m. The crew was taken on board by the "Equinoxe". The Dragon 76 helicopter secured the operation. The CROSS Gris-Nez immediately started conference calls between the "Equinoxe", the Toulouse Medical Center and the Maritime Medical Coordination SAMU in Le Havre. At 6:30 a.m. the "Equinox" arrives at Dieppe where the castaways were cared for by the fire brigade. The "Maletico" sank with eight tons gas oil on board. An Emergency Advisories Notice (AVURNAV) was issued to mariners to report any debris in the area.
