Repair at Orskov Yard completed
The 'Glyvursnes' returned back to regular service on May 2, depraating from Hirtshals to Thorshavn, after the fire that cost the life of a crew member in January. It had left the Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn on April 30 after extensive repairs. After the accident, the shipping company Smyril Line had chartered the cargo ferry 'Lista' as a replacement, while the 'Glyvursnes' was in the shipyard. The 'Glyvursnes' is one of Smyril Line's four cargo ships sailing on the routes between Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Denmark and the Netherlands.
Ferry under repair in Frederikshavn
On Jan 12, the 'Glyvursnes' left the port of Hirtshals and headed to Frederikshavn, where it berthed at the Orskov Yard for permanent repairs of the extensive fire damage suffered on the evening of Jan 2. The authorities' investigations will also still take a long time. In the violent fire, which had broken out in the ship's engine room, a 34-year-old crew member had died. The Smyril Line chartered the roro ferry 'Mykines' (IMO: 9121998) as a replacement ship.
Ship detained after fatal fire
On the morning of Jan 3, the Danish Maritime Authority boarded the 'Glyuvursnes' after a crew member died the previous evening, while another crew member has beeb seriously injured. The ship has been detained in Hirtshals by the Danish Maritime Authority after the fire in the engine room. The deceased is a 34-year-old man, while the seriously injured is a 47-year-old man - both from the Faroe Islands. The 47-year-old has been placed in an induced coma and transferred to Rigshospitalet for treatment of his severe burns. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and fire technicians went on board together with the Danish Maritime Authority, which was working together with the Faroese maritime authority.
