Aid ship returned from 20 day mission

Thu Feb 23 18:56:55 CET 2017 Timsen

The aid ship "Nautical Aliya" has returned to Malaysia on Feb 23, 2017, after a 20-day journey delivering about 2,300 tonnes of aid cargo for Rohingya in Myanmar and Bangladesh. Thousands of Rohingya have faced alleged human rights abuses in Myanmar, and fled to neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, prompting groups in Malaysia to make an aid expedition to these two countries. Malaysian ship with aid for Rohingya reaches Bangladesh

Wed Feb 15 10:40:49 CET 2017 arnekiel

A Malaysian cargo ship carrying relief for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh reached Chittagong Port, spokesman Jafar Alam told media Tuesday. The Nautical Aliya has 16 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers. “Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary for Maritime Rear Admiral Khurshed Alam and the Malaysian ambassador will present [the aid] in a ceremony,” said Alam. The aid will go to Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, where the Rohingya camps are based, for distribution. Malaysia sent the ship carrying 2,300 tons of humanitarian goods to help the persecuted Rohingya Muslim minority community. http://pakobserver.net/malaysian-ship-with-aid-for-rohingya-reaches-bangladesh/

Propeller of aid ship fouled by rope

Sat Feb 04 22:07:56 CET 2017 Timsen

A large rope got caught in the propeller of the "Nautical Aliya" which was destined for Myanmar in the evening of Feb 3, 2017, delayed its departure by more than 10 hours. At about 4.30 p.m. the crew found a 10m rope entangled in the propeller and three divers were deployed to cut it. They spent about 10 hours under the ship to cut the rope and get some minor repairs. They came up at about 4 a.m. on Feb 4. The "Nautical Aliya" was finally able to leave Port Klang waters at about 7.05 a.m. Chartered by Malaysian aid groups, the ship was carrying about 2,300 tons of aid destined for the Rohingya people in Myanmar and Bangladesh. It was part of the Food Flotilla for Myanmar mission.
