Three-digit number of migrants rescued in three missions
On the morning of Aug 24, the 'Guardamar Urania' rescued 236 people from an overlaoded cayuco. that had been located adrifting and without an engine, 232 miles south of the island of Gran Canaria, on Aug 23. The CCS in Las Palmas received an alert from the cargo m/v 'Teos' (IMO: 9173331), en route from Las Palmas to Cape Verde, reporting the presence of the cayuco, stopped alongside and carrying several people. While the vessel secured the vessel with a rope, it requested assistance, as it did not believe it was safe to carry out further operations. The CCS in Las Palmas mobilized the 'Salvamar Urania', which rescued the 236 people aboard the cayuco at 2:15 a.m. They were sub-Saharan Africans, including men, women, and children. It arrived at the port of Arguineguín, at around 3:15 p.m., where the migrants were disembarked. The 'Salvamar Spica' rescued seven migrants from a boat, who were disembarked in Almería. The 'Salvamar Denébola' rescued a number of people in the water, who were disembarked in Algeciras. 50 migrants rescued off Cape Bojador
On the afternoon of May 3, the Sasemar 102 aircraft located a small boat 60 nautical miles off Cape Bojador. The RCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas mobilized the ''Guardamar Urania' to the scene. The boat contacted the vessels in the area, and diverted the container m/v 'One Hamburg' (IMO: 9395159), en route from Singapore to Rotterdam, to the position. The vessel later confirmed that it had sighted the inflatable boat, reported that it was sailing at a speed of four knots, and was escorting it at a safe distance. Around 10:30 p.m., the 'Guardamar Urania' reported that it had rescued all 50 people on board. At 2:40 a.m., it disembarked them at the port of Arguineguín. On the morning, of April 6, the Guardia Civil informed the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas about a cayuco, which was located 15 nautical miles off Arguineguín. The 'Guardamar Urania' located and rescued 23 people. On the afternoon of April 5, the Guardia Civil informed the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Tenerife about a cayuco/ seven nautical miles off LaRestinga.
