Fourth body recovered

Mon Dec 20 11:55:41 CET 2021 Timsen

On Dec 17 Coast Guard divers have recovered the body of another missing sailor from the wreck of the lighter vessel 'Fardin-1' which sank on the Pasur River near the Mongla Port in Bagerhat with 600 tons of coal on Nov 15 after a collision with the 'Handy Perth'. Now four people have been found dead in the incident. Another sailor was still missing. Two of the seven sailors of the lighter vessel had managed to swim ashore. Coast Guard divers recovered the bodies of three crew members later.

Lightering of cargo has commenced

Thu Nov 25 10:42:33 CET 2021 Timsen

Salvage operations of the 'Fardin-1' have resumed nine days after the vessel sank on the River Pasur near the Mongla Port following the collision with the 'Handy Perth' in the evening of Nov 15. A Narayanganj-based 15-member rescue and diving team of the "Bhai Bhai Salvage" first started removing coal from the sunken ship in the morning of Nov 24. The wreck will be raised only after all the coal has been extracted. The lightering work was complicated by the silt deposition and a large amount of coal inside the ship. The two crew members who still remained missing have been identified as Jihad and Mohiuddin. Authorities have recovered the dead bodies of three crew members so far. The 'Handy Perth' berthed in Dhamra Port on Nov 21.

Relatives found another body

Fri Nov 19 19:05:52 CET 2021 Timsen

Another body has been recovered from the Pasur River in Bagerhat after the 'FAri-1' capsized after the collision with the 'Handy Perth' with seven crew members on board. He was identified as the crew member Rabiul Islam, 35. He hailed from Pirojpur’s Swarupkathi. The rescue operation was called off on Nov 18 with three crew members still missing, but Rabiul’s family began looking for him on a trawler near the scene of the accident. In the morning of Nov 19, they spotted his body floating near the Harbaria No 12 Anchorage area and called the police for necessary assistance. The two crew members who still remain missing are identified as Md Jihad of Pirojpur’s Bhandaria and Md Samsu of Bagerhat’s Mongla.
