Woman lost over board and retrieved in six minutes

Wed May 24 16:36:53 CEST 2017 Timsen

On the way across the Atlantic, a woman went overboard from the "Svanen" in the middle of the night of May 12, 2017. The ship, jointly with the "Thyra" was underway to the Caribbean and back again to mark the 100th anniversary of the sale of the Danish West Indies. Aftter it happened, everyone responded on board as they trained itm and the crew got her on board again in less than six minutes. When sailing at night, they always have life jackets, watch out for each other and use safety lanes when practically possible. In addition, they are always three men on duty so they can maneuver the sails, change the posts and always keep an eye on each other. However, despite all safety measures, the accident happened. The crew was alerted and came on deck. The engine was started, the sails were taken down, and the ship sailed back to the position where the woman was drifting in the sea. He was pulled aboard short time later. After being rescued, she was checked over. After consulting with a doctor and the defense center in Denmark, it was decided to medevac her. The crew got in touch with a Norwegian tanker who took the patient on board and dropped her off at Bermuda. Upon arrival , she was examined at a hospital and luckily there were no serious injuries. Her boyfriend was sent to the island to receive her when the ship entered port, and afterwards she returned home to Denmark. The "Svanen" on May 20 arrived in Horta and had an opportunity to evaluate the situation with the entire crew.
