Grounding in Gelting Bight
On Dec 11, 2019, the 'Janni - HM 96' ran aground with a crew of five on board in the Gelting Bight off the nature reserve Gelting Birk. The ship got stuck on a sand bar close to the l/h Falshöft in pos 54° 48.64' N 009° 53.53' E. It was listing to starboard side. Refloating attempts by a lifeboat of the DGzRS failed. The anti pollution vessel 'Scharhörn' and the police boat 'Staberhuk' went on standby near the trawler which had sailed from Sonderburg at 12.20 a.m. At the time of the grounding the water level was low in the area. In the night hours the ship could be removed from the shallow. It berthed at the harbour way in the port of Sønderborg on Dec 13.
