Tanker refloated after more than one day
After more than 24 hours Rijkswaterstaat has succeeded in refloating the "Ijsselstroom" on Dec 20 at 1.30 p.m. After an inspection it was towed to Twente by the tugs "Aegir" (MMSI: 244660659) and Liberte (MMSI: 244690320). After removing the tanker, the grounding site first has to be excavated which still may take some time. The tanker has been sold, and the single-hull ship was to be taken out of service after one more trip. It did not suffer a leak. The damage to the Interstream Barging could not yet be determined. IJssel blocked by grounded barge
On Dec 19, 2018, the "IJsselstroom", 1225 ts (EU-No.: 02323184), got perpendicular to the fairway on the Ijssel and ran aground on both river sides between Brummen and Zutphen at the Baaksche Beek due to technical problems which made the ship unmanoeverable. The whole IJssel was blocked by the ship which was carrying a cargo of gasoil. Rijkswaterstaat attended with two patro boats, and the two tugs "Liberte‘ (MMSI-No.: 244690320), and 'Frankenwarte‘ (MMSI-No.: 02212075) were called to refloat it but did not succeed until the evening. Salvage work was continued in the night. On Dec 20 at 8 a.m. salvage work was resmued with a third tug which had been called from Emnkhuizen. If it fails too, the 1.200 tons cargo may have to be lightered. In the foremidday the dreger "Zwartewater" was called and started removing sand around the stern. Actually 10 ships were affected by the accident.
