Careless welding caused explosion with seven deaths
The local authorities have completed the investigation regarding the fire on the 'Jag Leela' and determined that one of the crew members that has died was the one who caused the fire as he carried out cleaning on the slop tank using a welding tool. Prior to that, witnesses said, the person was already reminded not to carry out the task as some fuel oil was still present in the vessel, which allegedly triggered an explosion and fire. The incident resulted in seven deaths and 20 injuries. The material loss and property damage was estimated to reach approximately $20,771,844.
