The death toll after the sinking of the 'Jin Tian' climbed to eight on Jan 25, including six Chinese sailors, the Chinese consul general announced in the Japanese city of Fukuoka on Jan 26. Several Japanese Coast Guard and military ships and planes, as well as the South Korean Coast Guard and private vessels, took part in the SAR operation which resulted in the recovery of 13 of the 22 crew members. Among these 13 people eight deaths have been confirmed. Five of them - including four Chinese crew members - were not in mortal danger. Nine people were still missing.
