Grounded barge blocked Danube

Wed Jun 25 10:51:21 CEST 2014 Timsen

On June 24, 2014, the "Karin", enroute from Amsterdam to Bulgaria, ran aground on the Danube near the freeway bridge of the A 92 at Deggendorf. The ship, which was was loaded with a cargo of 560 tons fertilizer, drifted perpendicular to the river thus blocking the fairway. After it was refloated due to the rising tide, the river authority ordered the ship to berth at the Wallnerlände in Deggendorf while a ship sounded the river bottom. Ship traffic would be resumed in the foremidday of June 25 at the earliest.

Sun Feb 05 09:47:09 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Karin" was under repair at the Hoogerwaard Yard in the Waal Port in Rotterdam in February 2012 following its mishaps on Jan 19/21. One of the rudders and the propeller were dented, the bow suffered scratches and dents. The repair work is getting hampered by the language barrier of the Romanian crew.

Karin stuck again

Mon Jan 23 09:20:53 CET 2012 Timsen

The „Karin“ which had blocked the Rhine on Jan 19, 2012, caused more trouble in the afternoon of Jan 21. The ship while entering the lock once more drifted perpendicular and thus allided with the lock wall in Klingenberg. The ship with its cargo of 1000 tons steel was banned from sailing until further surveys have been undertaken. The ship was berthed at the Wallstadt lock until further notice.
