Ferry service remains suspended

The DFDS Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry service has been suspended until June after having been temporarily halted due to the coronavirus outbreak. The suspension will now run up to and including June 3 at the earliest. Due to continued Government measures intended to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus, the 'King Seaways' remains sidelined in Ijmuiden where it berthed on March 23.

Moby in Ferry-Swap Agreement with DFDS

Danish ferry and logistics company DFDS has reached an agreement with the Italian ferry company Moby to acquire its the two combined freight and passenger ferries (ro-pax). The company decided to purchase the ships, the 2001-built Moby Wonder and the 2005-built Moby Aki, in order to expand capacity on the Amsterdam-Newcastle route. Moby will in turn acquire the two passenger ferries currently operating on Amsterdam-Newcastle, King Seaways and Princess Seaways, built in 1987 and 1986, respectively. The deal is expected to be completed in the second half of October 2019. DFDS will subsequently bareboat-charter King Seaways and Princess Seaways from Moby until January and February 2020, respectively.

Enquiry into rape on ferry

A woman has been raped in a cabin on the "King Seaways". The 23-year-old was attacked sometime between midnight and 3 a.m. on Apr 4, 2015. Police believed the woman was in the cabin with two men when she was raped. Detectives now want to trace a group of men she had been speaking to before the incident. The Northumbria Police swas carrying out inquiries into the incident, and anyone who was on the ferry and has information that could help with police inquiries is asked to come forward. Specially trained officers are working with the victim to offer her support. Anyone with information was asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 953 100415 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
