Pirate attack off Bonny
The "Kota Sahabat" issued a distress message, reporting an pirate attack and requested assistance, in position 03 21 00N, 07 01 12E, approximately 50 nautical miles south of Bonny on Feb 24, 2018, at 11.20 a.m. Amed pirates in a speed boat chased the vessel which implemenedt anti-piracy measures and increased to full speed. After pursuing the "Kota Sahabat" for about 30 minutes, the pirates broke off the pursuit and fled the area. A Nigerian Navy frigate was sent to the scene to provide security and escorted the "Kota Sahabat" to the Bonny anchorage. It berthed at the Onne Container Terminal at 8.30 p.m.
