Barge breached in grounding near Hille

The "Labe 25", 1165 ts (EU-No.: 08451014), suffered a rudder failure during the transit of the Mittelland Canal at Hille on Jan 7, 2019, at 2.30 a.m. and ran into the embankment. The hull was breached, and the ship which was loadeed with 950 tons wheat suffered water ingress in the ballast water tanks. As the dewatering pump failed, the master reaised alarm, and the volunteer fire forces from Hartum, Hille, Eickhorst and Nordhemmern attended. After the ship had berthed at the quay in Hille, tow TS 8-pumps were installed. At 9.30 a.m. divers arrived on site and found a leak of 2x2 centimeters which was temporarily patched. Then the ship was allowed to proceed to the repair yard in Minden for permanent repairs before continuing the voyage from Calvoerde to Leeuwarden.
