Armed guards thwarted pirate attack

Fri Jan 17 18:12:01 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Lagertha', coming from Mindelo and sailing at 12 knots speed, was attacked on Jan 15, 2020, by a pirate ship 60 miles off the coast of Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea. However, the tanker Lagertha had eight armed guards of the Nigerian Navy on board. After a fire exchange, the pirates gave up. They tried to answer the fire, but then they disappeared. The tanker could therefore safely berth in the port in Lagos at 8.50 p.m. and meanwhile proceeded to Calabar where she dropped anchor on Jan 17.
