Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship off Galveston, Texas
The cruise ship Liberty of the Seas contacted Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders at 5:38 p.m. on Sunday July 9 and reported that a 71-year-old woman was suffering from a possibly detached retina. The Coast Guard Cutter Manowar, an 87-foot patrol boat, medevaced the woman and brought her to Coast Guard Station Galveston, where EMS was waiting. They arrived at the station at 7 p.m.
Search for missing crew member suspended
The US Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing crew member of the "Liberty of the Seas" approximately 170 miles southeast of Galveston on Apr 25. The Coast Guard suspended the search for Norman DeCastro 12:42 p.m. after searching a total of over 5,000 square-nautical miles. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Eighth District command center in New Orleans received a report on Apr 24 that a 39-year-old Filipino crewmember aboard the cruise ship was missing and was last seen at 10:30 p.m., on Apr 23, on the ship’s closed-circuit television. Involved in the search were: An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama. The crew of Coast Guard Cutter "Manowar", an 87-foot patrol boat from Galveston, Texas.
