Passengers were kept on board due to ship's movements
Some passengers on the 'Manannan' were kept on board for more than three hours when the vessel docked after wind and tidal conditions in the River Mersey made it unsafe to disembark. The ferry arrived and docked in Liverpool on April 8, 2024, at about 09:45 a.m. BST. But letting the passengers off the vessel was paused by the ship's master after the conditions worsened, affecting the motion of the vessel next to the berth. However, the vessel left on its return journey to Douglas at 2:45 p.m.
Engine failure reduced power
The 'Manannan' was running on just three of its four engines on Oct 12,2019, after the fourth one failed. As a result, the crossings between Douglas Port upon the Isle of Man and Liverpool were taking longer than usual. Consequently, the vessel was operating on reduced power on Oct 14 and 15.
Life raft accidently inflated
A life raft was deployed during a crossing on board the "Manannan" on a crossing to Liverpool at 5.25 a.m. on June 12, 2017. Poor weather had meant changes to the schedule, so "Manannan" had left the Isle of Man for Liverpool at 2.20 a.m. The inflatable raft was activated by accident when the vessel docked at Liverpool quayside. A manual release line had been caught as the vessel berthed in rough seas, causing the raft to inflate. The "Manannan" had suffered some damage whilst berthing in heavy weather at Liverpool which exposed the manual release painter line of one of her life rafts which became caught on the berth’s fendering and triggered a manual release of the life raft. The life raft was checked and repacked and was expected back in service by June 15. The Isle of Man Ship Registry was aware of the situation and has confirmed approval for the "Manannan" to continue operating during the period the additional life raft was being repaired.
