Medevac off Harbor Beach

Sat Jun 02 15:48:23 CEST 2018 Timsen

The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a medevac of an approximately 54-year-old man off the "Manitowoc" 15 miles northeast of Harbor Beach, Michigan, on June 1, 2018. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Detroit command center received a report from the vessel Manitowoc, at about 1:15 p.m. about a crewmember suffering from severe abdominal pains. A Coast Guard Air Station Detroit MH-65 Dolphin helicopter flight crew was diverted from a training mission to assist. After a brief return trip to the air station to refuel, the crew traveled north and arrived at the vessel, a U.S. flagged ship en route to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, at about 2:45 p.m. Once on scene, Petty Officer 2nd Class James Rotz, the crew’s rescue swimmer, assisted the man into the rescue basket. The man was safely hoisted approximately 80 feet into the helicopter. The man was transported to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe, Michigan in good condition.

Laker ran aground

Wed Nov 05 09:10:03 CET 2014 Timsen

The "Manitowoc" carrying a cargo of coal has been freed after running aground in the Detroit River. The freighter was bound for a DTE Energy Co. power plant in Trenton when it ran aground just north of a bridge connecting Grosse Ile and Trenton, near Detroit, on Nov 3, 2014. Traffic was delayed about 30 minutes while the bridge was temporarily closed. At 930 p.m. a tug freed the freighter, which had been traveling from Toledo, Ohio. The cause was under investigation. The incident wasn't expected to affect operations or the supply at the plant. After an inspection, the freighter was expected to have its coal unloaded overnight.

Fri May 03 03:28:00 CEST 2013 odinfm

A freighter hit a train bridge over the Fox River in Green Bay, Great Lakes, causing significant damage, and putting the railroad line out of service, reported FOX 11 News. Bulk carrier Manitowoc was in the area at the time of an accident, which happened on Apr 30 13. Vessel was en route from Sandusky, Ohio, to Georgia Pacific, loaded with coal. Bridge was closed for repairs, which were completed on May 1. The Coast Guard says it is conducting a federal investigation. Owner of the vessel, Grand River Navigation in Ohio, did not return calls for comment.
