Fishing vessel disabled off Breskens

Wed Nov 13 10:06:36 CET 2019 Timsen

On Nov 12, 2019, at 9.33 p.m. the KNRM boat 'Zeemanshoop' as well as the boats of the stations Cadzand and Blankenberge were alerted after the 'Goede Hoop - Z55', 60 gt (IMO: 8128236), got its propeller fouled by a net and was threatened to drift onto a sandbank near Breskens. The crew of four had failed to get rid of the net twisted around the propeller, and the skipper contacted the Dutch Coastguard and the VBZR in Blankenberge, whom he asked to tow the ship to Zeebrugge. The lifeboat 'Zeemanshoop' was quickly on scene and dropped off a man aboard the vessel, who helped to establish a towing connection, so that the threat of a grounding in six Beaufort wind could be averted. After the lifeboat 'Winifred' from Cadzand was on site too, the situation could finally be brought under control. 30 minutes later, the saviors of the VBZR from Blankenberge with the 'Sterken Dries' also arrived but were unable to tow the cutter. Therefore, the tug 'Multratug 29' was called to help. The 'Zeemanshoop' returned to it station. On Nov 13 at 12.50 a.m. the 'Goede Hoop' was salfely moored in the fishing port of Breskens.
