Monnik pushed aground
On Oct 25, 2011, around 8 a.m. the "Monnik" ran aground on a sandbar off Lauwersoog with about 150 passengers on board enroute Schiermonnikoog. The accident was caused by a strong eastern wind which pushed the sho off its course and extremely low water. The KNRM-lifeboats "Annie Jacoba Visser" from Lauwersoog and "Koning Willem I" from Schiermonnikoog pulled the ship off the shallow. The "Monnik" was able to proceed to the island with own power thirty minutes late.
