Barge refloated

In the morning of Feb 13 the pusher boat "Domian" was able to refloat the wheat loaded "Drebkau". The salvage had commenced at 8 a.m. and was carried out without problems. The Elbe was barred for ship traffic during the operation. The police started investigating the "Drebkau" after the successful manoever. The barge arrived in Krefeld on Feb 20. Barge remains stuck

The "Drebkau" remained stuck on the Elbe near Coswig, as the water level was low so that the recovery was postponed in the afternoon of Feb 12. It was hoped that the water level may increase by Feb 15 enough that the ship can free itself No pollution was reported, and the barge was stuck outside the fairway so that no problems for shipp traffic were expected. The anchor of the "Drebkau" had got caught in a tractor tire in the afternoon of Feb 11 so that a turning maneuver failed as the anchor did not grip, and the ship went adrift onto the gravel bar. The master had refused the assistance of a pusher boat, hoping to get off again without external help. Grounding on the Elbe

On Feb 11, 2019, the "Drebkau", 908 ts (EU-No.: 04030690; MMSI-No.: 270260000; CS: OL6522), ran aground on the Elbe at river km 285 near Coswig, Wittenberge municipality, in pos. 51° 51.80' N 012° 23.88' E, being enroute from Riesa to Hamburg with a cargo of wheat. Due to the low water level on the river first attempts to refloat the vessel failed. After rainfalls it was hoped that the water level would rise enough on Feb 12 to get the ship off the bottom.
