Engine room fire off Gresik
On Feb 25, 2016, at 1.25 p.m. the "Sumber Mitra Kencana", loaded with 1800 tons palm oil, suffered a fire in the engine room due to a short circuit at one of the diesel generators. The fire extended to the whole compartment and crew was unable to get control over it. A firefighting tug assisted the crew and succeeded to extinguish the flames within one hour. One crew member was injured during the firefighting and was transported to local hospital for medical treatment. The tanker was loaded with palm oil and anchored on Gresik roads in Surabaya, East Java, having come from Jakarta.
