Ferry grounded off Sofifi
The KMP "Permata Lestari V" ran aground in the waters of the Sofifi ferry port, North Maluku, in heavy rain falls on June 17, 2019, at 11 p.m. The Indonesian Transportation Ministry deployed the patrol boat "KNP 358" to evacuate the 52 passengers. The ship also had on board 17 crew members and 27 vehicles. The accident happened when departing the Sofifi ferry dock bound to Ternate. The passengers were taken to the Ahmad Yani Port, Ternate. The KN "Pandu Dewa" went on standby at the grounding site. The "KNP 358" conducted a sweep on the scene and supervised the refloating of the ship. The National Transportation Safety Committee launched an investigation.
