Ferry grounded off Cebu island
The 'Filipinas Butuan' ran aground within the vicinity of Bantayan Island in Cebu on Oct 23, 2023, at 2 a.m. It got stuck in the shallow seawaters off Santa Fe town in Bantayan Island at the northernmost tip of Cebu island. Rescue boats and personnel were deployed to transfer the passengers and crew from the ship. In the meantime, the passengers were served free breakfast, and nearby fisher folks and boat owners came to assist. Apparenty the crew of the ship had tried to avoid a fish cage along its path.
