Second grounding within 10 days
For the second time within a few days, the 'Reina Xaviera' ran aground on June 5. She got stuck after leaving the port of Dapa, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province, past 5:00 a.m. en route to Surigao City due to the receding tide. The PNP Maritime, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Rescue Team from LGU Dapa and other rescue teams came to assist. Grounding at Dapa Town
The 'Reina Xaviera' with 38 passengers on board suffered an engine malfunction and went adrift amid strong winds, before running aground off Dapa town, Siargao Island in Surigao Del Norte, on May 27, 2023. The passengers were brought to the port with the help of Dapa LGU, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine National Police. The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) cancelled the Cargo Ship Safety Certificate of the 'Reina Xaviera'.
