69 migrants rescued from distressed boat
Following a distress call from Aarmphoneofficial on the afternoon of May 12, the 'Sea Punk 1' and the 'Nadiir' found an unmaneuverable inflatable boat with 69 people on board, including four children and an unconscious blind person. The 'Sea Punk 1' was the first to arrive, distributed life jackets, and assessed the situation: In addition to severe seasickness, approximately 25 people were suffering from chemical burns. Several children were severely dehydrated, and water was already pouring into the boat. Shortly thereafter, the 'Nadir' also arrived at the scene. Together, the crews began the evacuation. One person who had jumped into the water was also rescued. All survivors received first aid and were later taken into the Italian Coast Guard, who brought them safely to Lampedusa.
NGO ship rescued 57 migrants, two toddlers and one man died
The 'Nadir' of the German aid organization Resqship has arrived at Lampedusa on May 11, 2025, with three dead migrants on board. The victims were two toddlers, around two years old, and a man around 30 years old. 57 migrants who had set out from Libya to cross the Mediterranean to Europe have been rescued. The crew of the "Nadir" was alerted by a radio message to an overcrowded dinghy in distress near the island of Malta. The two children were already dead when the "Nadir" reached the dinghy. The man died despite resuscitation attempts. The boat's engine had failed on the high seas. Since then, the people on board have been exposed to the wind and weather. It was suspected that the children and the man died of thirst. The migrants were coming from African countries such as Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo.
51 migrants rescued, 10 died in Central Mediterranean
51 migrants were rescued and another 10 found dead inside a wooden boat in the Central Mediterranean by the 'Nadir' of the NGO Resqship, when the boat was already full of water when it was located on the night of June 16, 2024. The survivors, two of them unconscious, were receiving urgent medical attention after being freed from inside the boat with an ax. The engine of the overcrowded boat was broken. The 'Nadir' was able to provide the castawys with rescue equipment and, in consultation with the authorities, pulled the boat towards Lampedusa. On the morning the Italian Coastguard arrived and took everyone on board.
