Ocean Yield acquires and charters back Navigator ethylene gas carrier

Norway’s Ocean Yield has acquired 2016-built 37,300 cbm ethylene gas carrier Navigator Aurora from Navigator Holdings for $69.75m net of seller’s credit. The vessel will be bareboat chartered back to Navigator for a period of 13 years, in a deal which includes options for the charterer to acquire the vessel back. Navigator Aurora is operating on a sub-charter to Borealis, transporting ethane from US to Europe, until December 2026.

ABS classes world’s largest LNG powered ethane carrier

ABS, a leading provider of classification and technical services to the global marine and offshore industries, is pleased to confirm that the ABS-classed Navigator Aurora, the world’s largest ethane/ethylene capable liquefied gas carrier, has been delivered to Navigator Gas by Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, China. The Navigator Aurora is the first of four Navigator Gas ethane/ethylene midsize vessels to be delivered with ABS Class during 2016 and early 2017. It has a cargo carrying capacity in excess of 37,000 cbm and is fitted with dual fuel engines that enable the ship to operate on either diesel fuel or LNG, making it capable of meeting the most stringent current and future air emissions requirements.

Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard ready to deliver world’s largest LEG vessel

The world’s largest liquefied ethylene gas carrier under construction at Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co Ltd was named Navigator Aurora ahead of its delivery later this month to London-based Navigator Gas, a major operator of liquefied gas carriers. The 180-meter ship with a capacity of 37,500 cubic meters will be used to carry ethylene from a refinery in Pennsylvania to the south of Sweden, according to Tommy Hjalmas, director of newbuilds and special projects at Navigator Gas. Since the late 1990s, Navigator Gas has placed a series of orders for LEG and liquefied natural gas carriers with Jiangnan Shipyard, said Lin Ou, chairman and general manager of the company. Lin noted that they included an order for five 22,000-cubic-meter LEG vessels, the world’s largest at the time. Source: China Daily
