Investigation regarding cause of explosion launched

The Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport has launched an investigation on the explosion which occurred during the petrol loading operation on the "Christina", during which the tank 1 and the cabin of the ship were severely damaged at the Kuwait Petroleum Europort in Rotterdam. Police and fire announced that something went wrong during loading, but gave no further information about the cause of the explosion. Static charges were thought to be a possible cause of the accident on Feb 14. Explosion in Rotterdam

On Feb 14, 2012 at 7 p.m., an explosion occurred aboard the "Christina" at the pier of the Kuwait Petroleum Europort in Rotterdam. The tank no. 1 of the ship which was loaded with benzol, was severely damaged as well as the deck house on the foreship. Obviously something went wrong during loading operations. The following fire remained confined to the front tank and was extinguished. The crew - the master, the owner, his wife and two children were unharmed and taken off the vessel. No spill reported.
