Investigation into cause of fire launched

Fri Jan 31 12:23:40 CET 2020 Timsen

After the arrival of the 'Newfoundland Lynx' in St. Anthony on Jan. 30, at 12.45 a.m., an investigation was launched in the small fire which had broken out in a cabin the previous afternoon and which was extinguished by the crew. St. Anthony was the closest port to where the vessel was fishing. The St. Anthony Fire Department met the boat upon its arrival and the crew was discharged from board. The fire brigade made sure everything was safe and sound and the fire was out. It was located in the accommodations section of the ship. There was still a bit of smoke in the room. but it was ventilated. The department had been called as a precautionary measure as the crew had run out of air for their breathing apparatuses. The Ocean Choice International acknowledged it would take some time to determine the extent of the damage to the vessel. The company continued to work with the proper authorities and an investigation into the cause of the fire will get underway over the coming days. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) sent a team of investigators to Harbour Grace to investigate the fire and assess the overall situation. Ocean Choice offered its gratitude to the St. Anthony Fire Department and the 'Siviluk', another vessel nearby that escorted the 'Newfoundland Lynx' while it was heading to port.
