New base for Royal Research Ships at Hutchison Ports Harwich International

Mon Sep 24 09:54:44 CEST 2018 arnekiel

Hutchison Ports Harwich International has become a new base for the British Antarctic Survey’s two ice-strengthened Royal Research Ships, the RRS James Clark Ross and the RRS Ernest Shackleton. The two ships are making their inaugural calls at the port in September before deploying to the Antarctic, where they will remain until summer 2019.

NOOSFERA 8904496

Mon May 16 22:41:25 CEST 2011 Timsen

The "James Clark Ross" returning to the UK was called to assist a yacht sinking off the Moroccan coast on May 15, 2011. The crew rescued four people and a cat from the yacht "Ex Africa" which was sailing in the Cape Verde Islands. The four crew, with links to Norfolk, Hampshire, Oxford and South Africa, were saved after the survey vessel was alerted by the Moroccan coastguard. The vessel was on scene within six hours. The yacht sank shortly after the crew were lifted off, and they will now stay on board the "Ross" until it returns to Portland, Dorset about 24 May.
