Repairs of grounding damage completed

Mon Feb 15 10:27:47 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Nyfjell", which had run aground east of Risøya in Skatestraumen on Dec 4, 2015, and had been towed to Øelen on Dec 6 has left the port again on Feb 13, 2016 and was underway to Haugesund as next port of call, ETA Feb 15.

Cargo ship grounded in Bremanger

Fri Dec 04 10:03:11 CET 2015 Timsen

On Dec 4, 2015, at 4.40 a.m. the "Nyfjell" ran aground east of Risøya in Skatestraumen, Sogn og Fjordane, with a crew of five on board. The lifeboat "Halfdan Grieg" was alerted and tried to pull the ship off the ground, but had to give us when the ship began taking on water in the engine room. The lifeboat assisted in draining the water then with a bilge pump. The cargo of gravel was dumped at 8 a.m. to make the salvage easier. The "Boa Heimdal" of the Norwegian Coastguard was monitoring the site, and the two tugs "Stadt Årdal" (IMO: 8414829) and "Stadt Sløvåg" (IMO: 8414817) were dispatched from Florø for salvage. At 9 a.m. the "Nyfjell" was floating again and towed to the quay in Måløy where a diver of the lifeboat started inspecting the hull with a camera. The ship berthed in Øelen on Dec 6 at 11.30 a.m. It had been enroute from Florø to Nordfjordeid when it ran aground. NYFJELL 7602584

Mon May 16 21:54:12 CEST 2011 Timsen

A quay at Karmøy collapsed during unloading operations of the "Nyfjell" on May 16 by 4 p.m. The ship had moored at Sævelandsvik some days before and was close to comleting discharge operations when the mishap occurred. It was reported that unusually large amounts of gravel had been unloaded. The crushed rock plunged into the harbour basin next to the ship together with the debris of the pier. The vessel was not damaged in the accident. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.h-avis.no/nyheter/lastekai-raste-sammen-1.6237861
