The "Ocean 5" caught fire after a small explosion in the afternoon July 2, 2015, near Piraeus north of Faliro. The crew of 10 Greeks did not have time to radio a mayday. The jumped into the sea, but were rescued safe and sound by the s/y "Calypso" which also radioed for help. The castaways were later transferred aboard a boat of the Coastguard which took them to the Zea Marina in Piraeus. Attempts of a fire boat to extinguish the fire on the blazing yacht failed. It burned down and sank at 4.15 p.m. stern first. No pollution was observed, but an antipollution vessel remained on standby in case needed.
