Longliner refloated one week after grounding
After several failed attempts to refloat the "Ocean Wanderer" which took place since Sep 22, the longliner could be refloated from the reef at La Foa on Sep 27 in less than three hours due to a suitable tide and a repositioning of the salvage tug "Emile Viratelle". Salvors started operations at 6.30 a.m., and at 9 a.m., about 15 minutes before high tide, the ship was pulled off and towed from the lagoon to the dock in Nouméa to undergoes checks of its state. Divers ensured that there was no water ingress. In recent days, the longliner had undergone several phases of depollution. 240 liters of oil from the ship's hydraulic installations had been salvaged with a helicopter. Part of the diesel was also extracted. No signs of pollution have so far been detected. Longliner grounded on coral reef
The "Ocean Wanderer", 120 gt, sran aground on Sep 20, 2018, at 8.30 p.m. on a reef in New Caledonia. The crew of six was rescued by the SNSM-boat "Croix-du-Sud" between 11.45 p.m. and 1.30 a.m. The ship got stuck on a coral reef 3,7 miles SE of Isie Pass and 10,6 miles NW of the St. Vincent Pass. The French tug "Emile Viratelle" (IMO: 9309760) was tasked to refloat the vessel. On Sep 22 it was near the longliner which was stuck in pos. 21° 55.78' S 165° 49.07' E.
