Ship leaking oil in Neuss
On July 30, 2026, at 12.11 p.m. the fire department Neuss was deployed to the 'Olesia' (IMO: 2293962) in basin 5 of the Port of Neuss. Hydraulic fluid was leaking from the rudder of the vessel after a bottom touch. Initially, the leak could not be completely stopped; sporadic amounts of fluid continued to enter the water. The fire department’s task was to prevent the hydraulic fluid from spreading further within the port. To achieve this, emergency crews used a boat to deploy approximately 50 meters of oil containment booms around the affected vessel. Strong winds hampered the response. Nevertheless, the fire department succeeded in containing the intermittently leaking fluid using the booms. Once the booms were fully deployed, the fire department handed the site over to the harbour master's office at approximately 2:30 p.m. The harbour master's office subsequently initiated further measures to contain the incident. Details regarding how long the vessel would have to remain in the port or what repairs to the steering system would be required were not immediately disclosed. Collision on Easter Scheldt
On Feb 19, 2019, the "Olesia", 6150 gt, coming from Antwerp with the barge "Olesia II" (EU-No.: 02325909; MMSI-No.: 244150822), was in collision with the Belgian tank barge "Perseus", 2898 dwt (ENI-No.: 02326171), which had sailed from Rotterdam, on the Easter Scheldt halfway between Ouwerkerk and Stavenisse. The "Olesia" suffered damage and headed, escorted by Rijkswaterstaat, towards the Krammer Lock in Bruinisse, Zeeland, where the police launched an investigation. On Feb 20 at 8.40 a.m. the "Olesia" berthed in Krimpen/Rotterdam and continued its voyage to Colonia on Feb 21 at 9 a.m. The "Perseus" berthed in Hans Weert at 8.50 p.m. and arrived in Terneuzen on Feb 21 at 8.40 a.m. The collision was caused by poor communication. The skippers of both vessels wanted to cross each other between Ouwerkerk and Stavenisse, but had no contact in advance about their course. One skipper thought that the other ship would continue to follow a certain course, so that he could continue like this, the other navigated on assumptions too, but they have not verified this together. When they realized that things went wrong, it was already too late. Investigations were launched against both skippers as they have probably violated several articles of the inland police regulations. The Public Prosecution Service turned to the case.
