Pirates released tanker Oilb G

Sun Jan 08 17:18:12 CET 2012 odinfm

Somalia Report says Somali pirates released tanker Oilb G in the morning Jan 8, after receiving a ransom. News are confirmed by today’s, Jan 8, post in national Georgian news agency GHN, stating, that the release may happen anytime soon, as Georgian authorities established a special Committee to facilitate the release, and the President was monitoring the situation. There was no other way to release the crew, it seems, as owner actually abandoned the vessel. Pirates claim the sum of ransom as $3 million. Maritime Bulletin.

The relatives of fifteen Georgian seamen captured by Somali pirates aboard the "Olib B" in the Gulf of Aden in September 2010 have appealed to the republic’s authorities with a request to use every possibility to release them. The crew is reported to be lacking water and food. The pirates are threatening to kill them if they do not receive a ransom of $1 million. Meanwhile, the Georgian Foreign Ministry still refuses to make any forecasts concerning the sailors’ fate. Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalanadze said that ship owners are ready to pay only part of the sum now.

Somali pirates on Oct 2 have demanded $15 million to free the "Olib G" which they hijacked with a crew of 15 Georgians and three Turks onboard. The owner of the "Olib G" initially offered a ransom of $75,000, but later raised it to $150,000. The vessel was in ballast en route from Alexandria to India, when it was seized in the Gulf of Aden on September 8, 2010.
