28 migrants dropped off in Augusta
The "Open Arms" dropped off 28 rescued migrants on March 12 in Augusta, where the ship berthed at 7.50 a.m. They had been rescued one week ago in the Mediterranean Sea. Among them were 10 minors. Meanwhile the "Geo Barents" was still waiting for a safe port for 111 migrants, among them 52 minors and one baby of four months age from Libya.
110 distressed migrants rescued
The crew of the "Geo Barents" rescued 80 distressed boat people from an inflatable boat in the morning of March 5. the Spanish sea rescuers aboard the 'Open Arms' brought almost 30 people to safety from an overcrowded wooden boat that was in danger of sinking. The migrants were coming from Libya.
NGO ship detained
The 'Open Arms' was subject of a PSC at the general cargo terminal 1 in port of Pozzallo on April 17. The vessel has been placed under administrative detention in accordance with the Paris MoU. The checks lasted for about 17 hours, ending in the evening. The Italian Coast Guard found some deficiencies regarding navigational safety and protection of the marine environment. The PSC detention will remain in force until the defiencies have been rectified.News schreiben
