M/V Orient Crusader-Tug Boat Vachon - collision in St. Lawrence
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has deployed a team of investigators to Port-Cartier, Québec, where the tug Vachon collided with the bulk carrier Orient Crusader. The accident happened during the berthing outmaneuvers in Quebec’s Port-Cartier in the Saint Lawrence gulf when the 1973-built tug collided with the 114,900-dwt Orient Crusader built in 2010. Cyprus-based Interorient is the owner of the Orient Crusader bulk carrier, while Quebec Cartier owns the tug Vachon. The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.
Bosphorus closed for ship traffic after bulkcarrier was disabled
On Feb 21, 2014, at 4.28 a.m. the "Orient Crusader", being enroute from Norfolk, where it had sailed on Jan 29, to the Ukrainian port Yuzhnyy with a crew of 21 and a cargo of 107,999 tons coal on board, suffered engine failure in the Bosphorus. The crew of the bulkercarrier immediately notified the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Centre which dispatched the tugs "Kurtarma 4", "Kurtarma 7" and "Kurtarma 9" as well as the lifeboat "Kıyı Emniyeti 1". Due to the navigational danger ship traffic was suspended timewise until the vessel was anchored at 9.12 a.m. The ship had on board 483 tons bunker fuel and 144 tons other fuel products. Crew member evacuated off Port Elizabeth with suspected appendicitis
Port Elizabeth SAR Rescue launched rescue boat at 22:00 LT August 5 2012 to evacuate a crew member of bulk carrier Oriental Crusader, 32-years old Ukrainian Oleg Storozhenko with suspected appendicitis. Vessel was passing by and at the request of the rescuers turned to sail closer to meet rescue boat with medics. Medics board bulk carrier and found patient to be in stable condition.
