Grounding on St. Lawrence River
The U.S. Coast Guard was investigating a minor incident involving the "Phoenix Star" on the St. Lawrence Seaway currently anchored just off of Clayton that struck a shoal near Alexandria Bay early on Oct 16, 2012. There was no indication of damage to the bulkcarrier or oil leaks, but the Coast Guard, Seaway inspectors and a dive crew were further assessing the ship in the afternoon. The unloaded vessel had hit the Sunken Rock Shoal in the American narrows, the trickiest section of the St. Lawrence River to navigate, around 3 a.m.
