Investigation into allision launched

Three of the four containers lost from the 'Phuc Khanh' have been brought ashore, one container sank and needed to be recovered. Local authorities have begun investigating the incident to determine what caused the allision such as why the vessel's engine failed, its speed, if it was anchored and other factors. The Vietnam Expressway Development Investment Corporation stated that they will coordinate with the related parties to continue examining and assessing the damage done to the Phuoc Khanh bridge and will hold the owner of the ship responsible. The ship remained stationary in the Ben Nghe Port as of Feb 23.

Damaged ship towed to Ho Chi Minh City

The 'Phuc Khanh' has been towed to a terminal in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb 21 at 12.45 p.m. in order to avoid any congestion on the navigational Channel. The vessel had suffered an engine failure, lost its power and went adrift before alliding with the tower crane. The vessel has sustained significant damage.

Container ship allided with crane

In the morning of Feb 21, 2021, the 'Phuc Khanh' suffered an engine failure while proceeding upstream on the Soai Rap river, Ho Chi Minh. The ship drifted onto a tower crane deployed in the construction of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge. The crane collapsed with its upper part falling onto the ship and destroying a number of containers on deck. Four containers fell over board. The container ship was towed to the Ben Bghe Port in Ho Chi Minh and berthed. It had arrived from Hai Phong on Feb 20.
