Search for missing crew members continued

The search for six of the 16 members of the 'Prestiga Falcon', amomong them, 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans, was continued. Of the nine who have been saved, eight were Indians and one was Sri Lankan. They were under medical attention right now. The six who escaped in the second lifeboat were still missing as of July 18. The Oman government, Oman maritime security, and the Indian Navy were coordinating the rescue efforts. Meanwhile, the relatives of Captain Vaiththiyakumar have lodged a complaint with the Bambalapitiya police on the night of July 17. The three Sri Lankans on board the vessel were the Captain Vaiththiyakumar, the Chief Engineer Dayanithi Appasamy, and the Second Officer Kuganesan Mahesadasan. The rescue forces were facing challenging weather conditions as the area was experiencing rough seas and strong winds. Oman’s Marine Security Centre said that the vessel remained ‘submerged’ and ‘inverted’.

Nine survivors rescued, another crew member recovered dead

At least nine of the 16 crew members of the 'Prestige Falcon' have been rescued while one was found dead on July 17, two days after the ship capsized on July 15 at 10 p.m. LT (4:30 p.m. GMT), about five nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman. Those recovered so far included eight Indians and one Sri Lankan. Tanker capsized, crew missing

The 'Prestiga Falcon', which had sailed from Hamriya on July 9 with 16 crew members on board, among them 13 Indian nationals and three Sri Lankans, capsized off Oman on July 15, 2024. The crew was still missing as of July 16. It was unknown if oil products were leaking into the sea. The tanker was heading to the port of Aden and capsized off Duqm. The Omani authorities conducted an SAR peration at the scene in coordination with maritime authorities.
