Old projectile exploded in cargo hold
In the afternoon of May 28, 2021, an explosion occurred inside the cargo hold of the 'Princess Sara', while scrap metal was being loaded onto the ship at the new port of Sidon. One of the workers had noticed an old projectile in the cargo hold before it exploded. The vessel suffered some damages, but no injuries were reported. A military expert from the Lebanese army and security forces attended and worked to inspect the site of the explosion and investigate its cause. Likewise, members of the Popular Rescue Regiment attended and worked to verify that there were no casualties among the ranks of the dockers and crew members who were present at the time of the explosion. The General Security arrested the person responsible for loading the scrap iron cargo that included the shell which caused the incident, and the operator who picked up the shell in an attempt to get rid of it. Following the instructions of the government commissioner to the military court, the detainees were referred to the military court for interrogation.
Freighter damaged during cargo operations
The 'Princess Sara' suffereed a structural failure including damage to the cargo hold access ladder, side hatch coaming handrails, and pertinent equipment, during cargo discharge operations at Gebze on Oct 24, 2020. The stevedore duty teams conducted repairs once the cargo discharge operation were completed. The ship remained stationary as of Oct 26.
Engine failure in Dardanelles
The "Princess Sara" suffered an engine failure while transiting the Dardanelles in northern direction enroute from Iskenderun to Constanta on Feb 1, 2019, at 9.30 p.m. off Nara Burnu point. The tug "Kurtama 1" was sent to assist, and the vessel was anchored in the Canakkale Bogazi area. The Northbound traffic was closed until the ship had left it. After the problem was fixed, the ship started moving again on Feb 2 at 1.30 a.m. with an ETA at Constanta as of Feb 3, 9 p.m.
