Tanker to be repaired in Tuzla

The 'Qaaswa' arrived at Tuzla and entered a shipyard upon completion of formalities. A detailed damage survey was carried out by the class surveyors together with the owner's technical superintendent. Further marking of the damaged locations and a request to repair was issued by the classification society. While permanent repair have commenced by the shore based workshop together with the shipyard technical teams, the vessel remained stationary as of Nov 11.

Disabled freighter towed to Tuzla

Rapairs of the 'Qaaswa' could not be carried out by the crew after the ship hadd engine failure on June 1 at Sfax, Tunisia. The tug 'Chambon Alize' was appointed to tow the vessel to Tuzla for repairs. Upon completion of towage approval formalities, the operation commenced on Oct 10, 2019. During the Canakkale Strait passage, Coastal Safety tugs provided escort service for the vessel and also to ensure the strait traffic safety. ETA at the Tuzla shipyard area on Oct 20.

Tanker crew abandoned off Sfax

The "Qaaswa" whch has been anchored off the mouth of the port of Sfax since May 2017, has run out of power with the last generator recently running out of fuel. The little food reminng has started to rot with the end of power supply while fresh water supplies have run out. There was no more medicine on board, while five crew memberws were sick and needed medical treatment. Captain Yehia Kamel stated that all crew membres wanted to leave the ship immediately with all their salaries and air tickets. The ship belongs to the Sharjah based Alco Shipping Services which has been linked to a number of crew abandonment cases in the recent year. On board the tanker were two Indians, three Bangladeshis and 13 Egyptians. The local embassies of the crew have been contacted and were trying to find a solutions. Many of the ship's certificates have expired, and payment arrears were now more than six months.
