Explosion in pump room

The "Hai An 16" suffered an explosion in a pump room and subsequent fire on Sep 21, 2017, around noon, while offloading cargo of gasoline at Hai Phong port, while petrol was being pumped from the K99 port in the Hai An District. The explosion occurred because of petrol leakage in the pumping room. The accident injured three sailors and caused some damage. The sailors were brought to hospital for emergency treatment and have recovered. The "Hai An 16" was then quickly isolated to ensure safety. The petrol was pumped to another ship to prevent further explosions. Some 1,700 cbm of petrol were drained from the ship as of Sep 27 afternoon. Authorities have warned of another possible explosion on the ship and requested relevant agencies to quickly pump all the petrol from the ship. The tanker was taken to an anchorage off the port to ensure port and city safety before the fire was extinguished. The authorities were working on a plan to offload the 4.000 tons of the cargo of gasoline from the damaged tanker.
